About Ron Oxley, the owner of Fitness WorldRon Oxley, a long-time resident of the Penrith area, has been in the business of fitness through the operation of local gym Fitness World for just over 20 years. When Ron first thought about the opening of a gymnasium due to a shortage of such facilities available to Penrith's growing population he was very much involved with fitness in his role as trainer for the Penrith Panthers working with coaches such as Len Stacker, Tim Sheens, Ron Wiley, Bob Moses, Graham Murray and a number of others throughout his ten years as a top league trainer. In his younger days when playing rugby league himself and competing in water skiing Ron soon realized that the closest gym for training was located in Parramatta called American Health Studio, run by Cecil Shultz. As a frequent visitor at this gym, Ron was eventually asked to become a trainer, and this first spark has since led to decades of involvement in a variety of sports and training techniques. With a background in engineering Ron's common sense and knowledge in the importance of quality products is easily understood and on display at Fitness World for all to see. A fully stocked gym including weights, indoor pool, netball court, indoor soccer facilities, room for aerobic classes, steam and spa baths on offer along with a variety of bags for boxing all can be found at Penrith's premier gym. Such facilities have resulted in a number a major teams and athletes training on site on a regular basis at the Peach Tree Road location. First grade cricket and rugby league teams, athletes from rowing and the grueling sports of triathlon and marathons have prepared and trained at Fitness World for the challenges of the future. The gym also attracts many competitors in the sport of White Water Rafting due to its close proximity to what was the Olympic venue on the out skirts of Penrith. In fact, in the year 2000, many Olympic competitors trained at Fitness World. World kayak champions and world amateur champion boxers all did their preparations at Ron's gym in their quest for gold during the Sydney Games. Through his many experiences in sports and fitness Ron has a genuine belief in the gym also being available for all and not just the elite athletes of any game. Fitness World is renowned for its great rehabilitation work and its' support for those challenged in the biggest game of all - life. People that Fitness World have helpedA number of years ago a nine year old Adam Davies was playing soccer when he was hit by a car after chasing his ball onto the road.Adam was injured to the extent that he couldn't walk nor communicate. Not really sure what to do after Adam was brought to the gym by his mother, Ron telephoned Royal North Shore Hospital and spoke to Adam's doctor, Dr Yarrille, who advised Ron to just give it a go under the principle of anything extra can help and just wait and see. Now 22, Adam is walking and talking while working for Penrith Council in the library. Through a great deal of his own hard work and determination Adam came through one of those challenges that only life can throw up at you. He and his mother chose Fitness World as the place to meet that test. In fact, Mon, one of the current members at Fitness World is herself an example of what hard work and determination can do. Mon was in the brain injury unit for 2 years following a car accident and started off coming in a wheel chair when she first started training at the gym. Ron used to hold her feet and hands on the bike so she could train. Now, she is driving a car and has been working out at Fitness World for 8 years. Not content with just getting up out of the chair Mon has competed in body building / sculpting competitions after seeing a poster advertising the benefits of weight training and it must be said that Ron doesn't have to hold her feet on the bike anymore while she trains for such competitions. And while success with any brain injury cannot be guaranteed the staff at Fitness World does commit itself to allowing these individuals the chance to fight back. As a result of such success, Fitness World has been asked to do a fair degree of rehabilitation work with brain-injured people as well as those suffering sporting injuries, knee reconstructions, hip replacements etc. Many physiotherapists and medical practitioners in the western region continue to send their clients to Fitness World as part of the rehabilitation process.
